About

The Ama Collective is a community-driven organization dedicated to uplifting and connecting Black artists across the African diaspora.

We believe art is not only expression but also a way of life — a practice woven into our neighborhoods, homes, and communities. By hosting showcases in intimate spaces, supporting residencies, and building transborder connections, we make sure artists are celebrated not as distant celebrities, but as creators who live among us, shaping our everyday lives.

In the spirit of movements like the Harlem Writers Guild and the Combahee River Collective, we know that it is our creativity — for us and by us — that turns the tide of inequality and topples oppressive structures globally. Through archiving, education, and collective visioning, we nurture both artists and local collectors so that communities feel empowered to sustain Black art for generations to come.

Currently, we are building a residency in Accra, Ghana with local partners, alongside initiatives in Baltimore and Washington, DC. Our goal is to ensure that Pan-African art flows across borders, uplifting communities and elevating Black consciousness worldwide.

The Ama Collective is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our federal tax ID number (EIN) is 39-3287671.

Our Story

The Ama Collective began in 2020, during the pandemic, with a Social Distancing Concert supporting Afro-Colombian artists. What started as a grassroots gesture of solidarity grew into a broader vision: promoting art in the African diaspora that speaks to our collective memories of resistance, liberation, and Blackness as it moves across borders.
